Once upon a time, in a land far far away (Ok, not really... tonight at around 7 in Atlanta) Andy and I decided to go out to the grocery... I had initially planned on going to Kroger, but at the last minute Andy suggested that we go to:
Not that I don't love Walmarts for the wonderful, price reducing, American business destroying, small town cornerstone, parking lot wonders that they are... but I'm just a little wary of shopping for food there (mostly produce - the packaged stuff is ok.) So through gritted teeth and quite begrudgingly, I decided to concede my usual boycott of the wal-mania.

I needed a few groceries and he wanted to check out the prices on our latest kick: CFL bulbs. I installed one in my living room the other evening and he wanted to price compare at a few different places before investing in a few for himself (check them out - they're an investment, he was actually amortizing the price in the store.)
Turns out that the prices at Walmart for CFLs are pretty comparable to those at other stores, so Andy purchased a few. Once that was taken care of, we moved on and were strolling through the housewares section of the store, browsing things we don't need, putting things on the bottom of the list to eventually purchase, etc.

Very ackwardly placed on the aisle with the dishes, Paula Dean's cookware, and other randomness were the KitchenAid mixers. I mulled over the fact that it's the one appliance I really want in my kitchen that I don't have, and commented as much. Andy's eye spotted another two mixers even more awkwardly stashed on the other side of the aisle on the top shelf.

It was a bowl lift, but it was a 4.5 quart one - I'd never seen that model; it was the perfect fit for me: I'd never use the 5 quart, but I wanted the look of the bowl lift. Yada, Yada, I'm picky I know. So we rotate it around and spot the little bright pink price tag: $130.00!

Yeah... I know; I freaked out too. Just ask Kelly - I called her immediately to get permission for such a large impulse buy. Well of course, she said I'd be stupid not to (not an exact quote.) So, long story short, I cleared the front doors of the Walmart and took off running with my brand new KitchenAid stand mixer:
Of course, I have to give credit to Andy who made me go to Walmart in the first place.

Way to go on the purchase!! I still have the winningest price on my kitchenaid mixer - $25 at a garage sale and it's cobalt blue. Its name is cookie monster.

One thing about some CFLs - putting them in your bathroom will shorten their life considerably. I installed 8 in our bathroom when we first moved in and ignored the label that says to use them in a "dry" environment. CFLs are supposed to last many years. I lost 3 of the 8 in my bathroom about a year to the date of install. They all burned out within a month of one another.

We name them? Isn't that bad luck...like naming your car? If it's not, then mine is named Snow White.....ahhhhh, so cute. :) Congrats!!! Best $200 spend in our house!
