New domain, new blog platform...

Having read up on blogging platforms, I have decided to try out Wordpress, and I've decided to host it myself on my home server (yes I have one, don't laugh.)

Long and short of it is that you can see new posts from me at: http://www.leviticus.me

If you're curious about why I'm switching, it's simple: I can't stand blogger's editor. I know most of you probably concur with me in that it isn't the most user friendly. A couple good examples (including one I just encountered) are:

Insertion of images NEVER happens where your cursor is placed - this is INFURIATING! It has forced me to insert all the images I plan on using before writing out the text, then typing around them. Otherwise when you insert images they always appear at the top of your editing window, forcing you to cut and paste them.

Random insertion of code into the HTML side - I just experienced this when all of a sudden one of my paragraphs wasn't wrapping in the edit window... only to jump over to the HTML and find a bunch of span tags. I don't like extra HTML when I didn't do anything to cause it.

Wordpress is open source - free, community drive, and community supported, and packed with more features than blogger will have any time soon, including the ability to attach plug-ins to the open interface so the possibilities of features and add ons are almost limitless.

I'm looking forward to finding all the cool things in Wordpress... if everything goes well, I will be switching to a hosted platform (to get the traffic off my server), and migrating all my posts from viiiwonder...

Anyways... come join me over at Leviticus.me!

Axel finds a friend at the dog park...

So, the other weekend we took Axel to Brookhaven Park.

The place is huge - two massive fields, separated by a play area for kids in the middle. Dogs take their people here and take their leashes off to have fun in the pack (and you really get to see how much dogs really are pack animals.) Axel quickly found a friend to have some fun with:

A Flood and Axel...

From the great southeastern flood of 2009. (careful what you ask for, no one wanted the drought to end this way.)

So for those of you who have seen the creek behind our apartments, you have a benchmark by which to compare this video.. for those who haven't, just know that the creek is usually 30 feet lower and dry (the lower creek bed is probably only 20 feet across...

Of course, then Andy came out and started bothering Axel (or trying to get him to stop jumping at his lighter.)

Cutest. Dog. Ever.

Meet Axel...

For most of you readers, he is your newest Nephew.
He is everything you would expect from a two month old puppy...
And more...

He can't wait to meet you all.

The departure...

Sunday was a bright, pleasant day. Andy and I woke up to the sounds of Sam warding off any sounds that might interrupt our slumber with those of her own barking (see Webster - Ironic.)

We knew the day would come to say goodbye. However, we took for granted the joy that came when we walked through the door to find a smiling face there to greet us when we came home...

Thanks for spending a week with us, Samantha!

Moving...

So, as tradition dictates... I had to move on my birthday.

Certain issues came to pass that Andy and I were to move in to a new apartment. Without the help of my family, it would have been a daunting task. Here's a few photos of the event...

A few of us...

Andy, Messing with my neice..
The lunch that was served...

Along with the Brisket I made...

The (wonderful) cheesecake that Andy made...

The people that missed out...
(yes the cups were made up since the night before.)

And not but a week later, we have a house guest...

Sam is staying with us for a week...
And she is SO smart! We asked her to chew her bone on a towel (instead of the fake, loud hardwoods) and she has obliged ever since!

So, there you have it.. a few pics from the new place; thanks to those that helped us move (and even those that weren't able to make it, just had to let you know what you missed out on ;)

Adding a local directory to a redirected desktop

Go ahead.. laugh.

After today's adventures into redirecting folders and making my entire workspace I went to go review a video I had rendered to my desktop. A file that was conveniently located across a G class wireless network connection.

At MPEG-2 quality, it was just too much. I was greated with stutered playback.

So, to have quickly accessible local location on my desktop I added a folder to 'c:\documents and settings\all users' called 'Local Data'.

I plan to use it for large video and other files.

I am now moving an N-only wireless network up on my to-do list.
